According to the Alberta School Act, an individual who at September 1 in a year is 6 years of age or older, and is younger than 16 years of age shall attend school. A board shall make all reasonable efforts to ensure that a student who is enrolled in a school attends regularly and punctually. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to ensure compliance with this requirement and the responsibility of schools to ensure parents/guardians are informed promptly when the attendance of students is not satisfactory.

Student Attendance

Call or email (Rosedale@cbe.ab.ca – 403 777 7530 ext 1) if your child is absent from school and share the reason (illness/appointment/other). For safety, if you do not contact the school, we will reach out to confirm where your child is by phone. Our first bell rings at 8:25am indicating all students should come inside to put away coats, backpacks etc. Classes begin at 8:30. Students arriving after 8:30 are missing instructional time and are marked as late. Students who arrive late are go to the office to be signed in. Chronic late arrivals will first be handled by the homeroom teacher and then referred to school administration to make a plan of action together with families so students do not miss instructional time.

Students are required by law to attend school regularly.

Late Arrivals

Chronic late arrivals will first be handled by the homeroom teacher and then referred to school administration. Chronic lateness causes disruptions in student learning and impacts marks. Students who arrive late are to report to the office and sign in on the late sheet.

Appointments During the School Day

Please notify the school in advance when students are required to leave the school for medical or dental appointments during school hours. Rosedale@cbe.ab.ca or 403 777 7530 ext. 0. Families/Guardians need to pick up students at the front doors and we will sign out the child. Ring the front door buzzer on the left side of the front doors on 13th Ave, and we will send your child outside once you arrive.

Student Extended Vacations

Please let us know when you plan on taking vacations with your family, so we don’t call you and or your emergency contacts. Extended vacations (longer than 2 days) that conflict with regular school days are reported in the system as an absence. We know families will try to avoid missing class time and appreciate clear communication. There is an extended absence form on our Rosedale website under “CULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT - CODE OF CONDUCT - ATTENDANCE” on the top right side of the page. Download and fill out this form and send it to the school 2 weeks before your trip. When we receive this form in the office, we share information with class teachers. For absences of 1 or 2 days, contact your class teacher and they will share this with the office. Staff are not required to provide study materials or tasks for completion for extended vacations.
