Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.​​​

Each student will demonstrate good character. Students will:

• Balance individual concerns with the rights and needs of others.
• At Rosedale the ultimate goal is for every student to be a self-directed learner and to make good choices.

We aim:

• To develop responsible citizens
• To protect the rights of everyone and ensure a safe and caring learning environment
• To develop in each student the capacity for self-control
• To develop in each student the capacity for objective decision-making based on analysis of alternative courses of action and the consequences of those alternatives.

Parents are encouraged to discuss their student's daily school activities and to review assignments brought home. Student agendas or other tools are used to develop student organization and planning skills and to enhance home-school communication. We look to parents to help the school in supporting the use of agendas or other tools by regularly checking them and initialing them to ensure that students are making good use of these items. Students at all levels are strongly encouraged to read daily at home as well as reviewing the day's lessons.

 In general, assignments/projects in junior high school take several days to complete; therefore, your youngster may not have daily homework but may have an increased amount of homework towards the end of a unit or prior to the issuing of progress reports and /or report cards. Teachers in the junior high strive to ensure that projects are completed at school rather than at home. Do not hesitate to contact teachers directly if you notice your junior high youngster either doing too much nightly homework or none at all: both cases indicate some kind of issue that needs to be addressed in a timely fashion before marks are impacted.

Students who do not complete assignments or chronically hand assignments in late will be expected to attend “Homework Hotel” with the expectation that there will be improvement in task completion.

The following is a guideline for daily home study times:

Grades 1-3: 15-20 minutes (reading, practicing number facts)Grades 4 - 6: 30-40 minutes (reading/reviewing -time to establish a regular routine)Grades 7 -9: 60-90 minutes (assigned homework/reading/reviewing of concepts taught, completion of long term projects).
